Process of hearing

                       Hearing is a complex process of picking up sound and attaching meaning to it. The ear can be divided into three parts which leading up to the brain. They are 

1. Outer ear 
2. Middle ear 
3. Inner ear

Now we can see about the process of hearing through which we hear each and every sound. 

• The outer ear consists of the ear canal and eardrum. Sound travels down the ear canal, striking the eardrum and causing it to move or vibrate. 
• The middle ear is a space behind the eardrum that contains three small bones called ossicles. 
• Vibrations from the eardrum cause the ossicles to vibrate which, in turn, creates movement of the fluid in the inner ear. 
• Movement  of the fluid in the inner ear, causes changes in the tiny structures called hair cells. This movement of the hair cells send electric signals from the inner ear up to auditory nerve to the brain.
• The brain then interprets these electrical signals as sound.

Everyday we are exposed to different sounds. Hearing become an essential part of life and allows us to be able to live and participate in life fully without limitations. Hearing is an important medium which helps us under this process of hearing.
