Challenges arising due to acquired and congenital hearing loss

 HEARING IMPAIRMENT

                    Hearing impairment is a partial or total inability to hear. A deaf person has little to total no hearing conditions. There are four types of hearing loss as listed below

• Conductive hearing loss
• Sensorineural hearing loss
• Mixed hearing loss
• Neural hearing loss

Communication and understanding is most difficult for the children with hearing impaired. So there are certain adapted ways  for the children with hearing impaired to communicate and understand. They are as follows

• Sign language
• Natural gestures
• Cued speech (lip reading) 
• Hearing aids 
• Finger spelling
• Signing exact english 
• Conceptually accurate signed english
• Cochlear implant. 

These are all the special skills through which the hearing impaired can easily Communicate and understand the speech of others. 

CONGENITAL HEARING LOSS

1. Congenital disorders is a medical condition that present at the birth
2. Congenital condition can arise from the genetic make -up of the fertilized egg during fetal development 
3. Pre- natal complications 

ACQUIRED HEARING LOSS

1. Acquired hearing loss happens suddenly as the result of serious accident or illness. 
2. Child may develop the sudden hearing loss while they are hearing normally. 
3. The challenges faced by acquired hearing loss child may experience depression, fearfulness and withdrawal or demanding behaviour. 

These are all the challenges faced by the hearing impaired due to acquired and congenital hearing loss.
