Conditions of mental retardation

 Mental retardation is now called as intellectual disability. Intellectual disability can be categorised into four types. They are as follows

• Borderline intellectual disabilty 
• Mild 
• Moderate
• Severe
• Profound

There functioning level can be measured by using a standardized scale, such as by the Vineland Adaptive Behavior scale. Now we can see some of the disease conditions under mental retardation category. They are listed below 

1. Down syndrome
2. Fragile X syndrome
3. Martin - bell syndrome
4. Prader -willi syndrome
5. Cat's cry syndrome
6. Phenylketonuria
7. Rett's disorder
8. Neurocutaneous syndrome
9. Tuberous sclerosis
10. Lesch- Nyhan syndrome
11. Maternal infection
12. Fetal alcohol syndrome 

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS 

• Odd behaviour 
• Reduced ability to learn or to meet academic skills
• Unwanted talking and repetative  speech
• Deficits in psychomotor skill 
• Depression
• Doesn't achieve developmental Milestones
• Lack of cognitive function
