Types of parenting styles of children with special needs
Parents play a major role of facing the difficulties in growing up a children with special needs. Children with special needs parents often be depressed and have low self-esteem because of the society's unwanted speech. And still there are some parents who are not accepting their child as a differently abled child even after assessments. Parental care is very important for each child to grow up with good displined behaviour and to survive good in the environment. There are four common parenting styles they are as follows
- Overprotective
- Neglecting
- Authoritarian or disciplinarian
- Authoritative
- Parents with this style are not allowing the child to do anything
- Parents itself does everything before the child tries
- Expectations from the child are typically minimal
- In order to keep protective the children are not allowed to come out
- They use a strict discipline with the little negotiations possible. Punishment is common
- Communication is mostly one way - from parent to child. Rules usually not explained
- They are less nurturing
- Expectations are high with limited flexibility
- Disciplinary rules are clear and the reasons behind them are explained
- Communication is frequent according to the child's level of understanding
- They are nurturing
- Expectations and goals are high but stated clearly.
- They never cares about the child
- Expectations are not set my the parents
- They are very less strict
- Communication is open but these parent's let children decide for themselves rather than giving direction
